In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Basic Barbecue Sauce. This is a simple sauce that tastes terrific and is made from convenience products that you most likely will have on hand.

Ingredients:

8-oz. can tomato sauce
½ cup steak sauce
½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons white vinegar or lemon juice

Combine an 8-oz. can tomato sauce, ½ cup steak sauce, ½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons white vinegar or lemon juice and mix well. Use as desired for a terrific barbecue sauce. I will be making something special with this sauce for my next video. I hope you like it! --Betty 

  • Is tomato sauce the same as pasta sauce? I'm Italian so I would never buy pasta sauce. Is there a difference between the two?

  • @1lovemocha They are not the same. Tomato sauce is like tomato juice, only thicker. Italian sauce is a ready-to-serve seasoned tomato sauce.

  • @Ladeegrace If you don't let it come in contact with the raw chicken, it will last as long as any of the ingredients last, which is a very long time! Just mix the 4 ingredients together and store it in a covered jar in the refrigerator, and it will be good for many weeks. Just make sure you pour from it and don't get it contaminated with chips, etc. that might get dipped in it!
