I have a friend who is part of a trust that owns two tommy guns, the first things they bought afterwards was lots of spare parts including barrel since they shoot steel cased through it. Now if the receiver is damaged yes then you may have potentially lost an NFA gun.

They allow more carbon build up so after numerous round the chamber will become sticky and MUCH faster than brass rounds. Also lacquer coated steel rounds could start to have lacquer flake off and melt in a full auto or very fast rapid fire, the polymer coated will just suck because they will start to rust from handling and the metal plated will still rust before lacquer coated will.
