In my ongoing fight against the Japanese beetles, I've added one of the common lure traps to the orchard...with a few improvements of my own. Preliminary results indicate that the trap is proving to be somewhat effective against the beetles.
Add couple inches of water to the trap and a couple teaspoons of dish soap. The soap film on the water smothers the little guys. Just don't cut the weeds down. They eat and mate on the weeds. Cutting them down forces them to move to adjoining areas...like the fruit trees. I learned the hard way.
