flash died age 66,not in his 40s,he told me sully was a great man and a gentleman,you cant compare the 2 cos flash was a hooker very fast and skillfull but Clive Sullivan MBE was a winger and nobody was as fast as a GB wingman in his prime!p.s leoOwnsWwe you must be a distant cousin as flash is my dad

flash flanagan was better but never saw clive play but only like flash cos he my grandads couzin but wot a shame that flash died in his 40s

A great rugby player and by all accounts a true gentleman. The Cardiff suburb of Splott produced Clive Sullivan, Shirley Bassey and Dave Edmunds to name but three.

I saw him play at the Boulevard one night against Widnes and he ran 50 m down the touchline with Widnes players trying to push him into touch and tackle him. He evaded them but never went in more than 2 m from the line at any time. It was magic, his legs glistening with Vaseline, it looked like at any time he'd be tackled into touch but he ran to the Widnes line untouched. There are some things you never forget and this was one for me in 50 years of watching league.
