I've heard people refer to the Pan-American Highway as, "The trip of a life time." I disagree. When a person takes a trip like this it changes them. They become adventurers, and they will likely take many more "trips of lifetimes" in the future. Many people in the United States are geographically impaired when it comes to their neighboring countries, and if you can drive to a country it counts as your neighbor. I've been asked so many times when talking about my trip from Utah to Panama and back, "But how did you cross all the water?" Or, "You drove through Costa Rica, that's out by Hawaii isn't it?" Dummies.

The Pan-American should be on your bucket list. Maybe it's the whole thing, maybe just to Panama and back, but I promise you it is an adventure you will never regret. Stop dreaming about it, stop planning, stop putting it off. Just start riding South.

Check out this playlist if you want to see the videos from my trip along the Pan-American Highway. Some of them are great, others kinda suck.

  • @halfthrottle

I really appreciate your videos. I started riding 40 yrs ago & had many plans to ride around the world. Foiled by back surgeries from motorcycle accidents & failed marriages, I find myself in my late 40's & still wanting to do it. Your videos are nothing short of inspiration for me & if I squint I can still see myself riding south one day in the future. Stranger things have happened. After all, in this day & age I'm just the new thirty something aren't I? Thanks & Cheers!

  • @graemelockieable I have friends in Panama who ride Goldwings. Don't think because you want to ride the Pan Am you need an off road bike with knobbies. You can do it, stay comfortable and ride good/decent roads the whole way. Don't give up on your dream amigo. Glad you are enjoying the show.

  • @halfthrottle Wow! That was fast. Thank you again for the inspiration & I also want to say that you have a very expressive professional air about you in your monologues that accompany your excellent videos. You are a fortunate man to be where you are. I fully realise this is only as a result of you making the choices & going for it. Take heed all you young people reading this. Halfthrottle is living life & as far as I can tell doing it right. Thanks for your response to my comment.

  • @graemelockieable I do hear now and then, "Sure wish I had your life." So move to Panama and buy a beat up KLR. Talking about it isn't going to get it done.

  • So do I take the Vstrom 650 or my DRZ400? what happened to your BMW did you trade it for your washing machine....lol?

  • @wannatipAcanoe Depends on what type of trip you want. There are nice roads all the way to Panama or you can opt for the more off road trip, and take the DRZ. Still have the BMW, but didn't bring it to Panama. Stupid expensive to import bikes into this country.
