I hav listened to these versions. Groban's was powerful. Bocelli's was refined. The latter is obviously more trained in vocal quality and smooth transitions. Check 3:45 where voice has to shift from high natural voice to a high falcetto. Bocelli's was fluid in loudness and clarity. No stolen breath to transition from one to the other. On this part Groban takes a cursory breath and breaking the note in the process. Listen preferrably with a headset and see the difference.

well, Josh Groban was 16 or 17 when he sang it with Celine Dion. He did it with her LAST minute and so he wasn't as prepared, and didn't get much time to rehearse. He did not have as much experience as he wasn't famous then. But he still did amazingly. And yes, the original is remarkable :D
