http://intuitivebeats.com This video explains how I get songs ready for mixing. I walk through the steps I take when preparing a DJ set in Ableton Live. I lay out all my tracks and get the warp markers set to match the beats. This way I can focus more on mixing the tracks, and playing with effects.

  • hey bro i am using live 6..when i select the track and press " 1 " it makes me type into the macro knobs that i have selected at the moment..Do u kno what i need to do? in Live 6..

  • Either assign a midi controller to the bass kills instead of the keyboard, or don't click on any macros when your going to use the bass kills. Make sure the the track launch area is in the foreground.

  • omg am i supposed to do this during a GIG :S

  • If you have more than two outputs, so you can monitor in the headphones then it's possible. I have done it just visually during gigs before too, although that's a bit trickier. Usually, I prepare my tracks in advance. ;)

  • dont by any chance know of any good cheapish interfaces with 2 outputs just for doing ableton djing do you ?

  • m-audio 410 is the one I use.

  • It doesnt affect how many tracks you can do vertically. If you right click the master channel you can add as many "scenes" as you want. But i see what you mean.

  • Yes, except that it limits how many tracks you can do vertically. I like to get many tracks ready in advance. I also find that the more different tracks you have your songs across the more different combinations you can play them in. If their all on two tracks then you can't very easily play the songs under or above the current song.

  • Wouldn't it be more logical to only use 2 audio tracks? as opposed to using a different one for each song. that way when you assign the equalizers and volumes of the audio tracks to a midi controller its far less of a headache.

  • It's good.
