Bill Merklein sculpted nearly 70 of the GI JOE action figures that Hasbro produced in the 1980's. As a master sculptor, he has worked on projects ranging from GI JOE, Star Wars, Visionaries and Mighty Max, to sculpting the VISA dove hologram that has appeared on tens of millions of credit cards.
Bill is currently an instructor at the Art League of Long Island http://www.artleagueli.net where he teaches fine art painting and equine sculpture.
Bill also has his own line of equine model kits called Merklein's Equines, which can be found at various online model kit outlets.
This interview was conducted in 2010 and features questions created by fans in the GI JOE community.
Hello.
I am european collector of military action figures and I think B. Merklein made some of the Visionaries action figures, so I want to ask Mr Merklein about the Visionaries non produced lines for 1988, were are actually the test shots of these non produced figures?
Thanks.

OK, I just watched this whole interview, parts 1 - 7, and have to say, it is absolutely the best, coolest thing I have ever watched on youtube. Bill is clearly a class act and I am so glad he took the time to do this. Bill, if you by any chance ever read this, THANK YOU for being a part of my childhood, you helped to make it a fun one. : )
