  • So true about holding the pick: I played guitar for 12 years, DYING to be a flatpicker, but relegated to playing fingerstyle, because I couldn't develop any speed or power with a pick. I quit playing for a long time and then came back to it, and through mostly coincidence, I started holding the pick differently -- the way Mike shows here -- and VOILA! I can pick now! So everybody LISTEN to what Mike says about holding the pick: it's a magic key. Really.

  • Mike, any suggestions on how not to lose picks?

  • That 'on the couch' riff sounded pretty good, actually.

  • Thank you

  • can't argue with the master

  • Guy needs to remember there are different ways to hold mandolins for different types haha

  • This is a nice video with some helpful tips, but as musician who has played for many years, not everything is etched in stone.

  • So coming from violin, it should be very similar? Not as significant of a change as from violin to guitar?

  • @KlephRenagade The placement involving the points that are uniquie to the F-style won't work for the A-style. Besides that, eveyrhing else should remain the same, I think. Good luck!

  • @omoshiroidayo if you don't pay attention to this fie points of technique you might waste a lot time ...or all of it

  • superfluous
