John was expected to win this title, but fell on a triple salchow and over rotated a triple loop. Was passed by Kenny Shelley in FS. He was a breathtaking jumper, who (i think) invented the flying open axel sit spin (death drop). A friend of mine saw him do it at the Philadelphia nationals (he was rinkside), and it scared him so much he (my friend) ducked down behind the boards!!!
