We need to go back to a standard pitch of C=256, which corresponds to A=430-432. Giuseppe Verdi himself wanted A=432 as the univeral standard.
On my page, there are a couple of examples by Piero Cappuccilli demonstrating the difference between the high, unnatural tuning and the true "Verdi tuning." There is also a new recording of an amateur chorus from the Schiller Institute performing Beethoven's 9th symphony at C=256, with very good results. Just listen to the double fugue!
