Coin Tumling, and Cleaning Equipment..Just as I was cleaning my metal detecting finds towards the end of the year 2009. I decided to record and share what equipment and cleaners I use to Tumble my
more recent coinage.. I also inluded a few other ways to clean smaller amounts of clad for those that do not own a Rock Tumbler.

  • @219erman, how did your pennies clog the coin star machine? Did they have dirt all over them?

  • i'm lucky that my bank has a coinstar..bank members are waived the 9% fee

  • Get you some Kaboom shower, tub and tile cleaner. Put your nickels, dimes, and quarters in the tumbler and barely cover them up with the Kaboom. Tumble them for about 3 hours. Take them out and dry them off. Do the pennies separately or they will turn the other coins pink. This stuff takes the crud off better than anything else I have used and I've tried different methods.

  • Nice video dave! I've had really good luck with just coins, water and powdered chlorox bleach. The coins themselves act as the pea gravel, well not as good but good enough and you don't have to strain them.

  • Thanks for your imput Dan....My Next 3 videos on Coin Cleaning will be

#1 Cleaning Silver coins...Its the easiest

cleaning coin, but also (Have to be careful) It's the easiest to scratch, #2 second easiest would be Nickles....Found in the Ground Nickles..

I would not clean a rare nickle this way...but 95% of nickles can be showcased after a simple cleaning...#3

Copper coins are tougher to clean ....so it is #3...............#4 GOLD ?......I would NEVER do ANYTHING to a Gold coin but rinseLOL

  • I'm always interested in making finds look more presentable. I recently got hip to using toothpaste to clean silver coins. I put some on the coin and rub it between my thumb and finger. Does a nice job. I'm interested in how to clean Indians and Wheats. I've been cleaning them in the tumbler and they come out looking way too shiny. Completely ruins the patina. Lately I've been using the peroxide/microwave method. It works good on some pennies..not so good on real bad ones. Great vid!
