Srila tirthapada was chosen by Prabhupada as his successor I remember this. When Tirthapada felt himself slipping he announced it and asked to be relieved of his duties as guru, he said he was sorry and didnt want hurt anyone, his son was only 3yrs old, he wanted to go back to his wife but the authorities would not allow it, he was also disillusioned with authorities who were telling him what he could and could not reveal from the scriptures , ( he told me this2wks b4 his ritual murder)

@ahamatmabrahman No, Srila Prabhupada said I will NOT appoint any successors, and he said the whole idea of appointed successor is "all nonsense." Where did he say he was appointing 11 successors? And if JT was an acharya, why was he listening to foolish "authorities"? An acaharya is not subordinated to any "authorities" other than Krishna. If JT wanted to go back to his wife, he was not fit for sannyasa, Prabhupada said no more sannyasa in Jan 1977, why did Jayatirtha violate that order?

"well documented in the western media" does not prove legitimacy to me. first, the state has no authority over the timeless vedic culture. there are many, many spiritual leaders who have been convicted of bogus crimes on false charges, most of which have never been proved, but which have been easy enough to prosecute attacking the culture as something out of the ordinary, manipulating state mechanisms: the courts.

I am not a member of ISKCON by a long shot, but I understand from the point of view of many others who have been attacked in the same way. There are people all over the world who call themselves "guru" at something(computer guru, engineering guru etc.). If the members of ISKCON want to call themselves gurus, I could not care any less.

@SuperTumeric No, when Nitai said that Lord Brahma felll down, so gurus can fall down, Srila Prabhupada wrote a letter to all temples saying Nitai is a black snake who is not welcome in his temples. You and the GBC are all disciplew of Nitai, so therefore, you are all black snakes, says Srila Prabhupada.
