The 50 minute wildlife film 'Through the Garden Gate - A Diary of the English Countryside' is on DVD direct from Amazon UK (lots of buyer reviews there) and shops in and around Oxford eg. Blackwells.

I'm a professional wildlife cameraman based in UK. Most of my assignments are abroad, for the BBC. Follow on my Facebook page 'Wildlife Cameraman'.

The film is about wildlife near where I live. There is no music - it's a personal view from behind the lens, giving an insight into the making of a wildlife film - at the same time reminding us that you don't have to travel to all corners of the world to see wildlife.

It's also probably one of the lowest-carbon footprint wildlife films ever made !

5% of the procceeds from the sale of the DVD go to the Wildlife Trusts - www.wildlifetrusts.org
Much of the film was shot on their reserves in Oxfordshire - www.bbowt.org.uk

  • I'm in Canada filming for Discovery at the moment - can't upload video from that assignment but I've put some posts up on my Facebook page (which link to Twitter) if anyone's interested.

  • I did not get close to the fox - it got close to me, by chance. I was about 80m from the field edge where the 'earth' was, standing in another overgrown hedge of brambles and trees but with no hide. I used a 500mm lens but it is possible to work much closer to foxes in towns and places where they are not shot.

  • I have just watched your short video trailer of the wildlife in your area. It was brilliantly filmed and the narration was perfectly timed. I still have a bit to learn.

  • @13tenbears Thanks for the comments. The narration took a lot of work and learning - I had never done one before and was pretty fussy about how I wanted it to be. It's frustrating because you never have enough time to say everything you want and saying only a little and keeping it making sense is much harder than saying a lot.
