In lupus, the immune system is out of balance causing it to produce autoantibodies, or antibodies that target 'self.' The underlying causes of this autoimmune reaction are not well understood. In this video, Dr. David Pisetsky of Duke University Medical Center discusses his research on the immune response to DNA and its role in stimulating lupus disease activity.
