Functionally atheist? Way to miss the point. I don't care what the President believes. I care that being a member of the 'correct' religion is a requirement of office in the minds of voters.
Do some research before you make stupid bullshit statements. During the 2004 elections 90% of the people who voted for Bush said religion was an important part of their decision. Kerry wasn't even an Atheist, he was simply perceived as less religious than Bush.
Running for President as an openly Atheist person would be political suicide in America. This needs to change and it won't happen by being quiet about it.
@ArmityleOfTheChaos When religions stay out of politics, gay rights, women's rights, all branches of science and stops spending millions of dollars on churches and houses of worship and instead spends that money on feeding, clothing and seeing to the medical needs of the less fortunate we will fight you.
@luminaeus contrary society DOESN'T accept religion and as far as i know go completely and utterly against it and usually call them terrorists or some other insult. and usually you blame the PEOPLE for THEIR decisions. every single thing is biased and their decision and they're the ones who choose their decisions or religion. an atheist has an equal chance of a religion person as far as i know.
I'll stop attacking religion when an Atheist actually has a chance of becoming President in a country that is supposed to be secular. Until then fuck religion and fuck you.

@luminaeus We've had plenty of functionally atheist presidents. Don't know what you're so worried about.
