@FourSeasonRunner I think what they're trying to do is shock the muscle by doing it this way. It looks like they're trying to do negatives with this. Which is a great way to really strengthen the muscle, it's a different workout.

These are focusing on the eccentric contraction phase of the movement which is a safer and more effective phase. Using eccentric control if four times more effective in strength building than the concentric action. It also assists in developing the deceleration control that assists in avoiding injury.
