Thanks for posting this - I was born & raised in Belfast in Sandy Row and the pictures could just as well be of there as the Markets. It's great to have these images preserved and published - can you do some more?

My father and uncle grew up in Norton Street in the old Markets - they should never have been allowed to knock it down to replace it with a ghetto, another disgraceful decision by Belfast City Council & the HE. They just issued a vesting order and a whole way of life disappeared forever. My grandmother died shortly after being forcibly removed the house she'd lived in all her life. In some countries they call that ethnic cleansing, here we call it urban renewal. :(

No we were paid to leave...I WAS JUST A YOUNG LAD..And I found a new way to live life,without hate...Back then I was trigger happy...And I still hate the British to this very day...But now the world has changed..And indeed..Belfast is beautiful once again..The Brits will fall flat on their face as they join America in the so called fight for Democracy in Iraq,and Afg,,Hang in there...The Brits will be broke soon..And Sinn Feinn has already seen this...Do you want peace?.
