To comment this recording, I know from experience, Ton Koopman's orchestra play on period instruments, which means gut strings for the strings, etc... Since you cannot put as much tension on the gut strings as for the metal strings, a is tuned to 415Hz, instead of 440Hz, so technically speaking it sounds closer to C#(or Db) than D natural. I hope this clarifies your question. When I play this on my guitar I play it in D using normal tuning.
