BD vs HD DVD during format war.

Unpublished comments (I thought I should publish it, as the war is over):

nice vid but the only key element to blu ray right now is ps3, if ps3 was not blu ray, hd dvd wouldve taken over by now. with prices for hd dvd players around 200 for the holidays im sure you will see player sales as well as software sales rise. the turning point i feel is gonna be who can reach out 1st to the non gaming general public with comfortable price tags.

How does this give a clear simple way of comparison. Check out all the people that are having problems playing blu ray discs right now due to the DRM on bluray. And bluray players cant link to the net, so no update for you, unless you send away for it. Think about the price you will pay for movies if bluray wins, considering sony has sole rights to the technology. Bluray discs are expensive to make, and cant be made using the same machinary as DVD, hd dvd can.

Ahh you forgot the most important part. HD DVD player $200 Blu-ray player $450. There are actually MORE titles for HD DVD players (see Engadget) and I can get about %20 of the Blu-ray exclusive titles and HD DVD imports. Now cheaper price, more titles, less DRM to me equals a better deal coming from HD DVD. Little known fact is Blu-ray has had to do a lot of discounting on movie titles to keep their lead despite millions of Playstations being sold worldwide.

Its 70% blu ray because of ps3. When the 3 times as many 360 owners all buy the add on hd dvd drive, blu ray WILL FAIL!

Yo listen up here's a story
About a little guy that lives in a blue world
And all day and all night and everything he sees
Is just blue like him inside and outside
Blue his house with a blue little window
And a blue corvette
And everything is blue for him and hisself
And everybody around
Cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

I'm blue da ba dee da ba die

HD DVD has higher interactivity.. is easier its programation.. lets see what happend. But the truth is that the blue ray has the actual money. I still not sure what could happen.

LOL, how many times has Blu Ray tried to convince us this war is over?

If Warner goes HDDVD exclusive in spring, it's over for Blu Ray, which is pretty much dying everywhere anyway.

HD-DVD is true 1080p. Infact it uses a newer codec than Bluray. Bluray uses MPEG 3, thats the same technology that MP3's use. It has been around since 1998.

HD DVD is winning. It has higher sales per unit capita. This is what the industry uses to determine format success. I'd say, go with the 360's HD DVD drive. Especially since you see more and more big movies on HD DVD exclusively for example, Transformers and The Bourne Ultimatum.

HD-DVD.

HD DVD: Cheaper, and 1080p.

highly biased, - doesn't anyone ever realize that the "winner" will be determined by what broadcasters support.... it makes me wonder why everyone is saying BluRay when in fact HD DVD is what broadcasters are supporting - and look at your graphs, Buena Vista supports HD - which is part of Disney... highly biased video based upon your references - wikipedia isn't trustworthy because people can just write what they want, as well...all your stats are coming from BluRay support sources...

I see what you did there. :p

Scrolling the text faster when you show HD-DVD supporters. That's low. That's the kind of "subliminal" stuff you only see on satire shows, but here you were serious.

  • HD DVD compared to Blu-ray, which screenplay is clearer and what resoultions are they? Please reply

  • same resolution, screenplay and sound depends on the codec used and its bitrate. Blu-ray allows higher bitrate (and obviously more space). So, an HD DVD ported to BD has the same quality (examples are Warner's titles)

  • thank you for presenting the comparison

  • Kingdom Hearts!! FTW

  • hd dvd sounded like a better name then blu ray

  • Bluray wins because its antiscrach and 1 disc can contain 60 GB!

and they are working on a way to get blury to work with 400 GB per disc so HD DVD and DVD's just got OWNED!

  • i hate this video, i hate seeing formats die and the sad music makes me depressed.

  • im a kingdom hearts fan too

  • nice music

  • HD DVD lost because the branding of "Blu-ray" was sexier. FireFox did this for their browser. What? A browser called "FireFox"?

  • well rich (if u say so) and stupid you are.

  • Just get Blu Ray, it will Replace all DVD's
