It's still a bit buggy, but this is the patch I've been sculpting for the past few months with Reaktor. I apologize that there is alot of "unseen" parts of this concotion, but I figure you can check out the previous video for an idea of how this ensemble is layed out. Although, there was just too many components here to be able to unfold and display each device being used at any given moment, and obviously this isn't about a pretty picture as much as it is about a roller coaster of potential with digital audio. This was done without an external controller, aside from the QWERTY config for the beatlookup module. There's way too many details to try and give you a full tour of this ensemble, so just check out the mangling, and feel free to ask whatever questions come to mind. Thanks for sitting through the botches and buffer pops, had to use ye ol' soundblaster for the screencapture ;) Also, the mstr clock was offset by a 1/4 note throughout the entire mix (forgot to push stop before play ;P), so all the drops and pickups are a bit weak, you'll notice the transients are offset in the beatlookup display when it appears. and fyi, wear some headphones (not earbuds!!!!) if you don't have decent reference monitors, i've recently found out that reaktor is incredible at emulating tape saturation, as you'll find with the kick drums and the lowend of the 303 module.

  • Are you processing that 303? It sounds really similar to the way Squarepusher has his set up in The Modern Bass Guitar.

  • @FreshmanThesis That's an awesome compliment, thanks ^__^ There's not really that much going on with the 303 module. Although the initial state of the synth is just a 303 emulation to begin with, so I kind of tweaked the filter and pushed it to go a bit further in the blurpy direction, and I added an osc =) Beyond that there is a wee bit of compression, and I'm running it into a sample rate reduction/ bit depth conversion module to get the crunchiness. Thanks for asking, hope this helps!

  • @ticklesitter Ah, it's the subtle things that do it. It sounds fantastic. You don't happen to know where I can get emulator, do you?

  • @FreshmanThesis I could send you the individual 303 module for reaktor, but if you're not a reaktor user, I recommend AutoBassLine. It's a vst that's about as close to a real 303 that you'll find from what's currently available in software format. But I definitely recommend if you're a reaktor user, to get on NI's user library, there's alot of useful information and brilliant programmers.

  • jeez. haha!

  • lol sry, I didn't have a chance to check out your stuff until today :) better late than never, hehe

  • pretty bloody slick. i need to listen to it properly, but this is quite immense. i give you props. i recently tried out the finger ensemble, pretty decent. but not as complex as this or not something i can appreciate as much. dopeness

  • I've seen that Reaktor can make this kind of stuff with ease, but, mate, this is one great performance! Will be re-listening! :D

  • i agree with the comments, it is in the Squarepusher / AFX mould, but it's not just a 'bad' copy, it's class. In fact, are you Squarepusher / AFX in disguise?

  • @ticklesitter I am a reaktor user, albeit a not very skilled one, haha. And if you could send it to me, that'd be awesome. I'd like to tinker with it a bit and get a sense for how it works.

  • sounds like Aphex Twin

  • Instant subscription. This is some of the most profound tech I've ever seen. I can't even fathom how it all came together. Really makes me want to learn reaktor.

  • thanks man, I really dig your max modules too. Check out part 3, I started getting into 3d motion graphics that interact with audio, so naturally I combined this concept with After Effects :D check it out when you have a few minutes.
