How to beatmatch REALLY quickly (on vinyl and on CD). Useful when you don't know if your next tune will be faster or slower than the one playing.

This is meant as an 'initial' beatmatch - you'll still need to listen to, and refine the beats during the mix.

I've left the crossfader in the middle, so you can hear both tunes playing. In 'real-DJing' you'd listen to the new tune in your headphones while performing this beatmatch.

  • if your beatmatching two tracks and you need a lower pitch to mix the next track , do you bring it back to zero after its mixed or would you normally just leave it cause youll hear the pitch go back up???

  • @ger101ger101 - you leave the pitch where you needed to put it to match the beats. Otherwise, as you suggest, you'll hear the pitch of the music go up. Even if you've got a Master Tempo control, you'll still make the music play faster if you return to 0 - and if you've found a tempo that people are in the groove with - you don't want to speed it up randomly.

  • @SuperCanisMajor Thats because Pioneer is very good quality, but also quite expensive.

  • Question, How come everyone has those decks? Everyone I see at clubs Uses these?

  • Time for Recess

  • I like the layout you have for your setup! Im about to buy a third 1000 and will likely end up using a stepped up and back shelving style layout at that point. Great video sir

  • @Ex0rz BPM counters are useful, but cannot always be trusted. Lets say for instance with a Drum & Bass track, certain parts of the beat (mostly high hats but can sometimes be other things) has an intricate arrangement; Sometimes the BPM counter may give you a reading that is 1 BPM off either side of what it should be...so 176 instead of 177.... always go by using your ears first then use the BPM counters to help you fine tune it whilst using your ears aswell ;)

  • @DJRecess I have a similar question as ger101ger101 - you answered, you leave the pitch as it was needed to mix both tracks. But, if a higher pitch is needed, after mixing to the next track, wouldn't it sound a bit "squeaky" ?

  • why you make it look so easy?

  • Man its hard for me to pracc beatmatching :D Cause i know the bpm when i select the song in my traktor... and i know how much i need to increase the bpm in my cdj :/ I try not to look at the bpm but its just there straight in front of your eyes :P
