Yes the bluey's the wheel and other good alnighters around the UK to many to think about now, but the sounds and your mates. a few doobs down your neck and away you go. still enjoy tthe Northern soul...KTF Nerker
@rearly62 Yeah Don Covay was probably more famous over there than he ever was here, here other really big name artists did better with some of his tunes, like Aretha with See Saw.The Spencer Davis Group did several of his tunes right, and also one by Brenda Holloway who was never really very popular here(I had to do research to find out who "Every Little Bit Hurts" was by originally!).I think Taj Mahal's version of this is better known here.Good to see enthusiasm for this music anytime, anywhere!
@mrJimCharles sorry, dancers means up-tempo dance tunes, as opposed to ballads which are sometimes termed 'slowies'. It is more that many US soul acts got greater recognition from the UK than in their own country, at least in the beginning.
@rearly62 I was watching another "Northern soul" video and from that I realized it's an Engilsh thing, but from your description I still don't know exactly what that's all about (dancers? I think you meant singers), I guess they're sort of appropriating this stuff as their own somehow.
@mrJimCharles Northern soul is the bastard son of soul that got airplay in UK clubs during the early and mid-60s, from 1967 onwards the desire for soul remained strongest in certain northern towns and clubs, these DJs searched US labels for obscure dancers and this is how northern soul came into being. Now anything from this period that has real soul has been "reclassified" as northern thereby allowing them to lay claim to whatever they like, despite this being a 60s mod classic not northern.
I am guessing this was a double sided hit with 60 minutes of your love. Both sides seemed to be on perpetual loop in my teen years. Yes folks, many, many, many years ago!!
Get the adrenalin going with this, hit a chemist, grab the drinamyl or dexedrine or both then up to Whitworthworth St. Manc. Life in the 60s and alive to tell the story. This is pure soul. Love it. The Twisted f@cking Wheel!!
