Owing to the abundant availability of Thorium within the country, India has steadfastly pursued with its R&D programme to make use of its Thorium supply to generate electricity. As a result, two types of Reactors using Thorium -- the Fast-Breeder Reactor & the Thorium Cycle based Nuclear Reactors are being developed in India & India is considered one the leading countries in the field of Nuclear energy involving Thorium.
The NDTV report covered the experimental Thorium Fuel Cycle Nuclear currently in operation at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre [BARC] in Mumbai. The deployment of Nuclear Reactors running the Thorium Fuel Cycle is part of the third stage of India's 3-Stage Nuclear programme.

  • Ridiculous comments from those who do not understand. Between science and technology developed in China and India, the USA is having its (fill in the blank) handed to it. I really wish the USA would wake up and peruse this tech, but due to public opinion (fear), and lack of investment (politics), it doesn't, so we watch others do it instead. China is planning LFTR reactors in the next 5 years. Watch the 16 min presentation on LFTR if you want to know why thats a big thing. v=WWUeBSoEnRk

  • @TheRaawan Thorium reactors can't explode, as their flouride salt fuel makes them self-regulating, literally making a meltdown and out-of-control nuclear reaction impossible. You will not get a steam explosion from one.

Not to mention that there are 8 grams of thorium per cubic meter of earth and tha tthe US and India together control 40% of the worlds thorium.

  • @zbret If the USA does have it already they wouldn't show it to anyone yet, even in its own country until someone else makes it and shares the news 1st.

  • @iamjacobnz I noticed that to, it makes me wonder if there telling the truth and it is truly just thorium there using. I bet there is a Uranium plutonium component in there research and the low radiation levels are because there using minuscule amounts lol. They did say they could not even light up a light bulb so what kind of accurate radiation levels they going to get out of that

  • @HWGuyEG I dont think this is LFTR its a thorium reactor that uses thorium only. Interestingly i am intrigued as to the low radiation levels. There innovation is driven by the fact they have no Uranium readily available, now thats interesting. LFTR burns nuclear waste or Uranium 238 and plutonium components in a breeder reactor, very dangerous but cheap because it burns the current nuclear waste.

  • @halo07guy2 All so fine but China and the USA etc are talking about reusing nuclear waste and thats a big difference to what is being shown here, A huge huge difference.

  • @zbret lol so you should have no problem insuring it on your own then. Oops why do you need the people(public) to agree to insure it if it goes wrong. If it is so safe and clean as you say then insure it yourself without the peoples backing.

  • @PrometheanRunGood And yes having Nukes does prevent other countries from attacking you, I mean when was the last time you heard of a nuclear state going on a war with another nuclear power? even India and Pakistan *both have nukes and hate eachother* haven't had a proper war ever since they developed their nukes, because no matter how big or strong your army is, one enemy nuke *no matter how weak* is enough to fuck your country up... just one. its MAD (Mutually assured destruction)

  • @PrometheanRunGood Believe what you will, but that wasn't my point. My point is that India doesn't NEED to blow anyone up. Its the world's largest volunteer army, its the world's largest Arms importer so even if it you're right * and you're not* India can protect itself pretty well, the thorium is purely for peaceful purposes. Because unlike the west we have a 10,000 year history of not invading other countries. If that doesn't prove anything I don't know what does.

  • @DeepakPawndU You're a fool if you think people in India are actually living under a nuclear umbrella that will deter anyone.

  • @DeepakPawndU Sorry but any reputable (ie non-Indian) geologist or arms control specialist will tell you that India's nuclear tests were duds. India hasn't proven it can detonate a H-bomb successfully and you have to wonder, there is a reason why your own DRDO scientists are calling for the government to not sign the comprehensive test ban treaty. They know India hasn't got a credible deterrent.

google "india calls for more nuclear tests" or "India's H Bomb Revisited" for your answer.

  • @PrometheanRunGood Are you kidding me? They don't "need" more nukes, they've alredy got enough to bomb most countries several times over, and more over they don't have any enemies *besides pakistan and china* Uranium is expensive and rare in India, we have to depend on Australia for Uranium and that makes no sense.I mean why depend on a foreign country for some thing when you've got a safer, cheaper and better alternative at home and in abundance?India has already established itself as nuke power
