Tatooing Show Rabbits

Updated. Rabbits need a tatoo to be identified on the show table. There can be as many as 30 identical rabbits! The judge needs the ear number to give comments. The rabbit's wins belong to him. Often tatoos reflect the rabbits parentage or rabbitry. In this case, HotRod's sire is HotShot and his dam is Quinn who's ear number began with an L; indicating Lindsey as her dam. Yes, tatooing does hurt a little but is mostly tickly and annoying. It is over quickly and there for life.

@deanogno1 : Sorry to say, it is required to show, or people could lie about a particular rabbits wins. Tatoos and wins are filed with the Rabbit Association. I have also identified a stolen rabbit by the tattoo, and found rabbits can be returned. So, it doesn't hurt as much as a human tattoo, more of like an irritating tickle. I know - I've hit myself by accident. ;-)

This is the standard in the US. It also helps me identify the rabbits parents and Date of birth. This helps when breeding to get the best combinations of parents for the best show quality babies.

LOVE the idea of the bag. Very nice. We have just been making "Bunny Burritos" with a towl, but this this a much better idea.

@pistoler001 Thats a DQ if they find out. Just be safe and smart and have someone else tattoo for you. It is not fun to waste $3.00

If ur afraid to tattoo it write it in permanent marker b4 the show and that will do too. :)

Either the bag or the numbing gel is very effective. I've heard rabbits squeel when they get tattooed in some instances. I don't own any, but have done some research through youtube.
