Charlie Lovely, a 15 year old high school student from Jasper AL. was your typical teenager.  He was outgoing, funny, charming, one of the best athletes in school, and excelled in academics as well.  He was liked by everyone, even voted class favorite, and class president.  Charlie's world crumbled around him in a matter of hours, on Halloween of 2008, which was also the day after his 16th birthday.  When most kids are getting in their first car and excited about venturing into another chapter of their lives, Charlie learned something about himself that would affect everyone around him.

Charlie was diagnosed with leukemia.  After leaving school early because he was feeling sick he went to his fathers urgent care clinic and his father had to diagnose his own son with the most devastating diagnoses there is. "Charlie, I think you have leukemia, we need to get you to Children's Hospital as soon as possible" his father said. and the roller-coaster began at that moment.

  • Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to meet Charlie. I'm sure I would have liked him. I have read the book and I can't find the words to give it justice. My 10yr old son plays toybowl football for Curry this year, so I feel like I did in a way have something in common with him. Curry sports!!! I would like to say to the Lovely family, Thank You for sharing Charlie with us all!! You will now and forever be in my heart!!

  • Charlie Lovely was truly lovely. He cared about anyone he met. Chalrie went to my school right before he had to leave. I'll never forget Charlie McKinley Lovely. he is always in my heart. I LOVE YOU CHARLIE!

  • I'm sorry I can't be at Charlie's birthday party tonight! I anxiously await my copy of this wonderful book - it's been preordered from Amazon for over a month.

  • I will never forget the day this beautiful boy came to the hospital. He was fun, smart, witty, and so positive. I loved every minute I got to share with him. He made me smile every single time that I got to see him, even if I had to do something unpleasant. He was inspirational to me and everyone he touched. All the staff that took care of Charlie adored him.I will read this, and the pages will surely be tear streaked. Thanks to the Lovely family for doing this. I will treasure it always.

  • Powerful and touching-- just like the book. There is no doubt that Charlie's story will touch many lives!!
