@nedmanxxx You'll be happy to know that I am a 20 year old student and I hosted a 35MM screening of the film just this Friday. It still looks beautiful to this day.

the ending was absolutely terrible ... how dare they end it with those supporting characters dancing and being happy!

This was the first foreign film I ever saw. I was already familiar with the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice from D'Aulaires' Greek myth, but to see it played out in film--in a modern setting, with black people--it was such a revelation! This movie is one of my all-time favorites! I only saw it once, but it had such an impact on me. I can still hear Orfeu's agonized voice, calling for Eurydice...

President Obama just said this was one of his favorite movies as a child and that him and his Mom used to watch it all the time! Makes me want to see it...

Well I played "Morning of the carnival" on my guitar. :)
Is that movie from 1959, or?

A great, great movie both for it's story and it's music. And of course, the Rio scenery is beautiful also. I've seen a lot of great movies, and this one is in my top 10. I like it even more because it is one of the very few movie black love stories. Lots of comedies and action films, but very few love stories. Wish there were more, but I dont think Hollywood is too interested.

Brazil must have been an amazing place to visit during that tme. In many ways its heyday.

I remember seeing my arts teacher showing my class this film as a class project before. Most of the guys in the class were buggin' over how curvy the chick's ass is at 0:26. Even though it was in french....it was still a good film.

it should be brought back to the big screen....hardley any youngsters are hip to it....it is a must see..

It truly is a great movie. I remember seeing bits of it for the first time when I was about 20. I recently rediscovered it in my local library (30 years later) and think it's a classic.
