@Mistawizzyswaggg Because they believed that the Plague was a curse from God, they believed that by self-harming themselves God would realise that they were sorry for their crimes, so God would take away the Plague.
they used to this in the philippines too :( this is sooo freaking scary! give it a thumbs up if u believe that u feel so bad for these people who had to whip themselves i am so happy that im not there rite now!
Desperate and frightened people often do things that they wouldn't do otherwise, even in today's more enlightened time mobs of enraged people go on rampages. And when a mob forms, individual thinking and reason is temporarily lost. Its a fact. Its called mob mentality.
@Pliurte Thanks for this interesting bit of info. That just means the scene was filmed in Lithuana, perhaps because there is a medieval film set there or streets that date from that time period, and why not let the actors speak Lithuanian which most wouldn't understand.
Scene in "Freiburg" was taken in Vilnius oldtown (Lithuania). So this is absolutely fail. Even people, where they're talking "Hurry, hurry. Bow down, bow down" - are talking in lithuanian language :D So WTF?:D
why does it keep skipping ... a we bit irritating
