"Poor Side Of Town" was written by Johnny and Lou Adler and recorded with a lush string arrangement provided by Marty Paich. The female back-up singers you hear are The Blossoms with the voice of Darlene Love in the lead. The Blossoms (aka The Crystals) also did many backing vocals for other performers including backing Shelley Fabares on "Johnny Angel" and working with Phil Spector who credited them as The Crystals on such recordings as "He's A Rebel" and others. "Poor Side Of Town" was the #1 song in the nation during October of 1966.

I always split the 60's into two, early 60's and late 60's. The later the decade got, the more pop music went downhill... Sorry but that's how I feel about it. Loved this song...
