The largest electronics show in the world and the technology of tommorow. See the 'Kensaku-Kun' robot ride a bicycle, florescent robo-jellyfish and a 300 gigabyte holographic disk.
Given the choice, I think I'd go for your one! Mine has a crippled version of the internet that has Flash but can't see Youtube, leaving out a vast swath of possible entertainment just with that. It makes a great MP3 player though, and the screen is amazing with video (640x480, full colour), if a little small..
the phone i have at the moment has live tv, msn messenger, youtube, the full internet and 4g internal memory. which is better than the iphone by a long shot (and its 7 months old!). the japanese do it with style though!
You mean Softbank! Well mine has good video capture and a 5-megapixel camera, not to mention good sound for mp3s. The tv ones are getting better with the digital tv now, but my old analogue one needed good reception (so not always usable on trains or in buildings, where I really wanted to use it!). I don't know if digital has the same problem.
Well then you just have to go! Surrounding oceans and a very different history make Japan a unique place. I'd say the zany stuff is part of it- it makes it fun to experiment with new and seemingly pointless things. But some of those things catch on and even become indispensable (like mobile phones, which I never thought I'd need).
couldn't agree with you more. i have a serious obsession with all things japan, mainly technology. its the only place left on earth where i havent been that i want to go to.
One thing here is the Japanese love of the zany, mixed in with the more functional technologies. Those squids may seem silly, but to Japanese eyes, it's more interesting to have them around. Probably the Vaio impressed me the most too- useful and entertaining.
Me too, Japan has the most advanced electronics, compared to none.
