ive just started using pastels, a bit different to graphite but i think im getting the hang of it. great art, are you on deviant art? if not make an account right now!

Sure, No problem
The most important thing is to take your time doing the eyes, if you rush them, it can ruin the whole painting in an instant. I use Pastel Pencils with a good sharpe point. The 1st parts I do are the 'glints' as these need to be bright. I then build up the colours of the iris using tiny cercular movements with the pencil. Add lightest tones first and gradually add darker tones. I then work on the pupil & darker parts of the eyes with a dark brown pencil & black on top of that.
