http://www.patriotsurplus.com This video is an excellent example of why Nomex fire resistant flight suits have been worn by military pilots for years and why ground soldiers in Iraq have now taken to wearing them in the field. If caught on the fringe of an IED or other blast, the soldier may get knocked down, but they won't be burned.

  • for the face it could be a good size helmet, then use the same fire proof material to go over the helmet same with hands and feet

  • They make Nomex balaclavas that protect the face and of course, you protect the hands with combat gloves or flight gloves which are made of Nomex as well. Also, there are studies that show wearing long johns under the flight suit will increase the protection level by around 90%. Interesting science!

  • Impressive! I just bought some Sparco Nomex gloves for Motorsport racing...good to have seen this! hehe Although I hope Im never in a situation where I have about 8 flame throwers surrounding me like here! :p

  • That might have been true for older fabrics, but the advertising all says NOMEX's properties are inherent to the molecular structure of the fabric, and are fully washable.

  • Love Nomex. Saved the lives of my friends in the oilsands field.

  • uhhgg my dad went on my youtube......again.

  • @Afterburner245 Hah, too late for that. But, thanks for the suggestion. Where can I find that reg, anyways?

  • @Afterburner245 I suppose normal ones would still become a thermal barrier, though a flame resistant one would be the best.

  • @patriotsurplus Is the extra protection from regular long johns or Nomex long johns?

  • @sudoLinux666 Talk to your commander. I had to pester mine quite a bit before I got mine.

  • @Afterburner245 I got flamed for my first and only O-ride, and I had hours, and a student certificate.

  • @sudoLinux666 As a cadet private pilot I am allowed to wear a flight suit on O-rides.
