Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel sings "The impossible Dream (The Quest)" from "Man of La Mancha". It's a bonus on Special Edition Double Album "Bryn" (DG).

  • Bryn is a fantastic singer ...and btw he is a baritone not a bas ,not a bas baritone..

just a baritone i would consider him a dramatic or maybe a verdi..too bad though he never took on those big verdi roles...and before you start attacking me....just go and listen to justino diaz..goerge london, and other real bass-baritones and will see the huge difference between their and his vocal range,

  • @crytekengine It's not an attack, but George London is regarded as a bass. Anyway, I don't think we should consider those qualifications as extremely precise. Terfel has definitely way lower notes in his voice than many baritones (example : Fischer-Dieskau, who's often been called a bass-baritone and is definitely not). Now, his voice might have become higher with time (can't say, I don't follow his career well enough to know) which often happens to very deep voices with time.

  • uhhhh....you might want to fix the silence

  • @jtanton10 Yes, I know, the timing was not the right one when I made the "video". I have an easy solution, though : one can just stop the vid once the song is over. :)

  • @crytekengine He is a bass-baritone - that's what he refers to himself as and that's the roles he takes on. He doesn't have the tessitura for a verdi baritone, that's why when taking on the "big stuff" he's gotten into Woton.

  • Awesome Welsh vocal power!

  • He makes it sound so easy! I love the arrangment, too.

  • majestic wonderous voice...OMG!

  • @crytekengine He refers to himself as a bass-baritone

  • he sings it as Don QUIXOTE ` might.... this comes from `la man of la mancha `

  • Very, powerful!

  • Who cares if he is a bass, a baritone, or a bass-baritone; I love his voice!

  • @crytekengine There is so much of Bryn Terfel I admire but here, by comparison with other singers, his voice seems somehow unanchored and a little lacking in tone. Samuel Ramey, in my opinion, is an exemplary exponent of this song.

  • @Kapellmeister35 He is classified in the Metropolitan Opera's season program as a bass-baritone.
