Currently playing w/and enjoying Gnome 3 shell on Oneiric at the moment. KDE is my main & on Oneiric has surprisingly proven to be the most stable(w/Xrender) when compared to Gnome 3 or Unity. IMO, KDE is the best experience as far as looks, converting from Windows and tweakability out of the box. Gnome 3 w/extensions is very nice. I'm a big fan of the activities overview & hotcorner. In a few months it should be great. For me, Unity is the slowest of the 3 and the least configurable.

KDE is nice, but I found it to be resource-heavy. I say this because my computers are all off-lease or refurbished.
Unity is a re-source heavy and it takes longer, more steps to do the same things you could do in Gnome.
I prefer Gnome, but for my older (oldest?) pc -HP8800, I installed Xubuntu with XfCE, and that is very acceptable.
