I AM SO WITH YOU ON THAT ONE MIMI, I STARTED SENIOR SCHOOL IN 1983 AND I HAD JUST 'DISCOVERED' DEANNA DURBIN DURING A WEEKLY SHOWING OF HER FILMS ON CHANNEL 4, I BEGGED MY PARENTS FOR 2 THINGS, A WALKMAN, AND A DEANNA DURBIN CASSETTE, I WAS TOTALLY IN AWE OF THIS AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED SINGER AND ACTRESS... I love Deanna. While all my friends were listening to Bros and Wham while I was growing up I was warbling along to Deanna...what a great childhood I had. God only knows the noise that came out of my bedroom and bathroom for all those years!!

Logically, the lyrics would suggest a male is singing it to a female. However, it was originally written for Miss Durbin, and this is its first performance. I kind of like the role reversal, a girl calling a guy "pretty as a picture". Besides, Melvyn Douglas, very famous at the time as Garbo's leading man, was a catch that plenty of bobbysoxers Deanna's age would have been happy to pursue.
