DISCLAIMER: A few things I need to point out:
1. I speak very little Mandarin. I'm still in the process of learning.
2. I don't own this song. Mr Wakin Chau own it.
3. Music by Liu Si Ming and lyrics by Liu Zhi Hong. Sung by Wakin Chau.
4. This is my first attempt at a Chinese song.
5. Any mistakes in the chord formation is due to my fingers disobeying orders issued by my brain.
OK so here's the story. I was in China for holiday last year. Went to Beijing, Su Zhou, Nanking, Guang Zhou and Shang Hai. Most of the time, I had to communicate via a translator. I realised how.... "disadvantaged" I was not being able to speak much Chinese other than saying hello, goodbye and how much. But it was a fantastic experience.
When I got back home from vacation, I happened to visit a book sale a few weeks later. There were on display, shelf loads after shelf loads of Chinese books in one section of the expo. And I realised how much I have been missing because I can't read Chinese. Well today, I've decided to take up Chinese lessons. Not just to converse but also to read and write. It's tough but as a saying goes, the journey of a long and difficult path starts with the first step. Now here I am attempting this new song.
As usual, I hope I've not killed the song. Although I have been listening to it for weeks now, I sincerely hope I pronounce the words well. This morning while waiting for my sister-in-law to fetch me to work, I decided to record it. Any mistakes done are unintentional. If you can find the mistakes, then it means I did a bad job covering it up:)
One other thing... I don't know what my neighbour is up to. He's been working on a construction project of his and it's been causing a lot of grief with his noise pollution, which you can hear in the background of this video.
Anyway, here is the lyrics. The first line is in Chinese characters, the second line is in pinyin or pronunciation and the third is the translation.
這些年 一個人 風也過 雨也走
zhe xie nian yi ge ren feng ye guo yu ye zou
There were tears, there were wrongs, The things I still recall
有過淚 有過錯 還記得堅持什麼
you guo lei you guo cuo hai ji de jian chi shen me
All these years alone, the wind has passes the rain has gone
真愛過 才會懂 會寂寞 會回首
zhen ai guo cai hui dong hui ji mo hui hui shou
If you've had true love, then you would know there is loneliness, there is goodbyes
終有夢 終有你 在心中
zhong you meng zhong you ni zai xin zhong
There are dreams, always there is you in my heart
朋友 一生一起走 那些日子 不再有
peng you yi sheng yi qi zou na xie ri zi bu zai you
Friends walk this life together, Those days will not return
一句話 一輩子 一生情 一杯酒
yi ju hua yi bei zi yi sheng qing yi bei jiu
One word, one life, A lifetime relationship, a cup of wine
朋友 不曾孤單過 一聲朋友 你會懂
peng you bu ceng gu dan guo yi sheng peng you ni hui dong
With friends you won't be lonely, Lifelong friends you'd understand
還有傷 還有痛 還要走 還有我
hai you shang hai you tong hai yao zou hai you wo
There are wounds, there is pain . Must go our separate ways. Always there is me.
Great to do a song from a different language! I feel unsure when I try Japanese songs, but I think it's worthwhile to try. I can't judge your Chinese because I don't speak it, but it sounded good!

@paxukulele Thanks loads John. That's means a lot to me. I'm also currently taking up Chinese Mandarin lessons. And I'm not talking just learning how to talk but the whole package of how to read and write too. I felt I've missed out on a lot because I can't read and write Chinese. I felt really lost when I visited China in October last year.

@paxukulele By the way, I've always enjoyed it when you do Japanese songs. Why do you feel unsure? Is it because you speak more English?

Well done Dylan. Sounds good to me. And that hat makes you play like Jake.
