Listen to Al Hibbler, Roy Hamilton, and Brook Benton in quick succession, Arthur Prysock, too, think about the cultural context in which their recordings were released, and you can't help but be amazed, and admiring, of how they all managed to place "soul" into the ears of the white record-buying public without any of them knowing it. By the time the '60's arrived, the public was ready.

As I commented on Unchained Melody, I was 11 when I bought that recording in 55 and 10 when I bought Ebb Tide. I still have them. I took the bus to town and went to the 5 & 10 by myself! Hopefully some of today's young will discover this great man. This is GREAT SINGING.
