I was at this show. I still remember poor Joni Mitchell getting booed off stage. She went on instead of Pete Townsend who had to back out at the last second due to his dad being ill, I believe. I am a huge Police fan and seeing this live was very special and sad for me, but that night the crowd just lost their minds when U2 came out.
It was broadcast live all day long on MTV too. I had a friend tape the whole thing while I went to the show. Then a year later my Brother lost about a third of the tapes, including PeterGabriel & U2. I wonder if any of those tapes are any good anymore?
@MuvoTX ... Bryan Adams also had killer set. I recorded that one too. unfortunately those tapes (maxell UD XL-IIs) are LONG gone. I think (if memory serves me right) this gig was broadcast nationaly on Westwood One radio network.
Great moment in history for fellow Police fans. they had bitterly parted ways ~2 years prior to this gig, and Sting had released Dream of the Blue turtles a few months prior. It was up in the air whether Sting, Andy, Stewart would re-unite for this gig... till' the curtains opened, and the crowd went nuts. I was a freshman in highschool when this aired on the radio. I recorded the U2 set as well as the Police performance.
It was an all day affair (kind of like Live Aid). Pete Townshend was supposed to play this show but had to leave at the last minute because he just got news his father had died. For some reason I remember there was a Bruce Springsteen wanna be performer named John Eddie. He played the afternoon slot. I have no idea why I remember that.
Yes, it was on MTV. Not sure why the debate, but, you, u2retrobuff, thegools, robertk2007 and maxider are correct. This IS from the Amnesty tour finale. I remember rocking-out to it that day as a wide-eyed 16 year old. Bryan Adams also did a killer set that day. Yes, Bryan Adams(!).
Was the song really performed this fast?
and, Sting should be banned from dancing, ever. *cringes*

I also remember hearing that Sting was using Adam Clayton's bass. Any truth to that?
