  • OH MY GOD! I just pulled pretty much the exact tile in the house I just bought and am stuck with the same tar like mastic on the cement slab! I want to epoxy the floor and need to remove all this evil black mastic! Problem is I have double the area you have! Any suggestions? Great job by the way! Looks amazing with new tile!

  • I couldn't find info on mastic removal anywhere & no pro's would touch this job. It's gnarley stuff! I'll give you as much info as I can, will split between couple posts cause am limited on space they allow.

    1- This is hard work!

2- Get good gloves, elbow length

    3- Get good knee pads

    4- Jasco

    5- Paint thinner

    6-Shop towels, paper towels

    7- Ventilate, use fans

8- Blow out all pilots, heaters, stoves, etc...

  • Amazing job, but I would caution people to check that the mastic does not contain asbestos. More a problem on older houses, but even on a new one a contractor may have used old asbestos-containing mastic. Peel back a little bit of the floor and send it for testing or use a testing service.
