Assertion of life, I liked that.
Since the beginning of life, 3,7 billion years ago, through evolution in that looong time, life has collected and refined meaning and value for itself. Its basic characteristics then and now are self-preservation and procreation. True, there are exceptions, some people commit suicide and some people don't want to have children, but the majority of humans display those characteristics.

@petermaquire ''Having children is merely an extention of that, as in 'my life is worth living therefor my child's life will be too'.''
This is where the insanity lies. People often conflate the notions of 'starting life' with 'continuing life' . If you could create seven billion happily ecstatic lives and populate Mars with these people, but you knew that it would come at the cost of creating one poor suffering soul, would you do it? If not, what does that say about the human condition?
I admire your honesty. People are animals. Our fear of death is an irrational instinct. People are fully entitled to take their own life if they so desire. People don't think about the ramifications of creating new sentient beings in a rational way. I therefore fail to understand how you can come to the conclusion that life is 'sweet'. Once you understand the dna game that is being played here it's an formidable challenge to be anything but misanthropic.

@DerivedEnergy I had uploaded this as a response to someone else a while back and took it down. The original title was based on a quote from George Borrow's Lavengro and I couldn't be bothered to retitle it. There is no real reason behind the title.
We shouldn't condemn people for their decision to opt out. Life is not sacred in any objective sense. At the same time doen't this also also apply for those who want to live?

As an antinatalist, I don't have issues with people continuing their own lives if that is what they feel compelled to do. However, why do people feel they have the right to 'play god' and create new ones? The dogma that life is 'a precious gift' that needs to be bestowed on future generations is moronic. WHAT exactly are we doing on this planet here and WHY? We're just glorified need machines.

@DerivedEnergy Most people find life and the experience of living, despite the hardships, worthwhile for a infinitude of reasons, none of which are likely to seem 'rational' on the face of it. Having children is merely an extention of that, as in 'my life is worth living therefor my child's life will be too'. Yes, it is pretty reckless all things considered, which is why I have no intent to biologically reproduce (chance would be a fine thing lol) but prehaps not for the same reasons as you
