Campus -- Eid Festival at GMU

George Mason University held its annual Eid Mela (festival) last week amidst a charged environment for Muslims in America. This year, student boards representing many Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and India jointly organized the festival. Food, dances, clothing and jewelry stalls were the Mela's highlights. Attendees said that although this has been a difficult year for Muslims in America their spirits were not dampened on Eid. Most of the attendees stressed that although some in America were antagonistic towards Muslims, most were welcoming and friendly.
