The Diamonds already had about eight chart hits under their belts before they scored the smash hit "Little Darlin' " in 1957. Kathy-O, (from the movie of the same name) was a hit in 1958 and proved that The Diamonds could handle a ballad just as well as a rocker.

  • That somebody who told you was wrong. This is the original version. Written for the movie and sung by The Diamonds.

  • So ironic that The Diamonds biggest song was a rocker, when in fact their classically trained lead singer - Dave Somerville was a ballad singer extraodinaire

  • Is this clip from the movie? Did they sing it in the movie?

See the new post of their "Where Mary Go".

  • No this is not from the movie - they did the audio only

  • I remember hearing "Kathy-O" by Earl Grant.

I hope someone can post Earl Grant's version because someone told me it was the original version.

  • Beautiful song, people always tried to tell me this was the Ames Brothers because the Diamonds sound simliar to them on this record, but I would tell them it was indeed the Diamonds!

  • Warm and Beautiful song, sung wonderfully.

Yes, the Diamonds sang "Kathy-O" in the 1958 movie of the same name.

The Diamonds can be heard singing as the credits appear at the beginning but they did not star in the movie.

Those interested in the movie can type "Patty McCormack - Kathy O" in YouTube search bar.

  • Kathy-O, Kathy-O, Why do the flowers grow Kathy -O, Kathy, only for you Kathy-O, Kathy-O, Sunshine knows where you go Smile for me, Kathy The sun will come through As you sit by the window Bewitched by a star Are you really an angel I wonder what you are Kathy-O, Kathy-O, Just keep those dreams aglow You'll always be my sweet Kathy-O
  • I've been searching for this song for a long time. Thanks for posting.

I remember hearing Earl Grant's version of "Kathy-O" quite frequently on the radio during the late fifties.

Earl Grant could be the original singer but I'm not sure.
