"Trade Wars" are Trade Suicide.... Recently President Obama hiked taxes on Chinese imported tires an extra 35%. This harms low income Americans who would ordinarily buy the less expensive tires for their vehicles. Learn more about free trade at www.freedomtotrade.org
@itsmiketonight We create more jobs here, now, by installing solar panels on our roofs. This protects us from the next nuclear plant meltdown. Oil & car companies are not loyal to America. They just want our money. Loyal Americans today are installing solar, to power their electric house & electric car, to protect their kids from air pollution caused by coal powered plants and nuclear power plants. Real protection comes from solar houses. not tariffs against solar panels. No tariffs.

@MyDogNameIsMao We are now one world. Air pollution in Fukushima hurts kids in California. California is trying to go 100% solar. There should be no tariff against Chinese goods. Henry Ford made cars affordable by doing mass production. China is now following the good example of Ford and making Solar panels and wind mills affordable. This benefits Californias effort to go 100% Solar. Can we power California 100% on Solar & renewables by 2050? Yes we can. Youtube: paul8kangas

True.
Every country should "protect" essential industries with tariffs and demand that they not pollute the USA.

This Dan Ikenson must have been paid well by the Red China. To argue that since we have already shipped jobs to China, therefore, we should allow China to abuse us more by dumping their products into the US, is ludicrous. The simple fact is China manipulated their currency to low ball the pricing on tires. Then flood the US market with their products to kill US producers. I think US should tax ALL Chinese products at least 45% unless the Red China allows their currency to float freely.

The case was successful. Antidumping duty orders were imposed on color picture tubes.
A result of that was the building of new color picture tube plants by companies like Matsushita. One of the great ironies -- I recall saying this at another time -- is that the day the Commission voted affirmatively on the color picture tube case, the president of Matsushusta stood up in Tokyo and announced that he was going to build the largest color picture tube plant in the United States in Troy, Ohio.

In the late seventies, early eighties, there were dumping orders in effect on TVs from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. As a result of that, those orders were very successful. What happened, Korean and Japanese producers set up assembly operations in the United States.
What then happened was a massive inflow of color picture tubes. Regardless of the 15 percent tariff, color picture tubes came surging into this country. A case was brought by the color picture tube producers.

Things don't remain static and international competition is brutal. I was very involved in the supply chain of the auto industry and experienced the effect of the diminshed industrial base in the USA. Regardless, the consumers wants the best deal on everything and will buy for short term enjoyment. Recall the futility of the "Buy America" campaign in the 1980's. People didn't care and weren't loyal if superior products were available an more affordable price.

Economies of scale benefit consumers who have jobs. There is no argument that some businesses benefit big from free trade. Not all people do..What benefit are big box retailers down the road to a demographic who has progressively lost entire industries to Free Trade? It is like the process of businesses running lean; in part due to Free Trade. Plenty of benefits at first, but look at the practice now. All across the business world, it continually gets leaner. No jobs=no consumption...
