they are both influenced by the same guys.. but mayer is more into funk than philip..

Yeah i think its more SRV and Hendrix influenced both of them equal amounts so it shows in them both, obviously in different ways

He's 35.. so there is no way Mayer influenced his playing whatsoever. I don't even hear any Mayer, it's definitely Hendrix and Srv.

He's great but nothing really new since SRV... If you want an awesome young player of the same age playing strats too, listen to Matt Schofield, he REALLY brings something new to the table in the his playing. Much richer and inspired, and what a sound... ;-))
