@cjjiv Hi! It's somewhat coincidental that I came upon this, as two days ago I watched a young mother in the family allow her 11 month old to crawl up an entire flight of stairs - and marveled that she had the courage to allow him to try. (He has only been walking for two weeks... but crawls like a bullet!) :) Not meant as any sort of criticism, just a curious observation, as I am not a parent; and wondered how one "decides" how much latitude is appropriate. Guess it's instinctual?

Probably some instinct involved here. Still there is also probably some discernment based on observed abilities of each individual child. For instance, I tend to keep a closer eye on the middle boy who is noticeably more likely to accidentally injure himself than either of the other three children.
Still, I am more careful with my daughter when we rough house. Must be the 'daddy's little girl' syndrome.

Cute Kids.
But I have to wonder ... would you have been so "protective" of a male child who seemed as able and willing to make that climb?

@MzProgressive: When all three of my boys were that age I believe I was just as protective. However I am sure I am more protective in general over my daughter than am over my sons. Something instinctual about this I think. Good thing I live in the United States where I can be protective over whoever I want ;)
