    Nick Lucas initially made the song "Side By Side" popular. The song writer Harry Woods asked Nick to 'rescue' the song,(the publishers wanted to shelf it). Nick originally recorded "Side By Side" in early 1927 and it charted a No. 3 hit for him that year. Subsequently more artists recorded "Side By Side" and it became a Pop standard. Nick recorded the song several more times during his career.

    From 1950-57 it seems that every TV musical variety show ended with the host and guest singer in a duet of 'Side by Side.'

    My mother, who I had to place in a nursing home in early 2011 after a terminal cancer diagnosis, made a reference to this song during her ten months of hospice. She passed away on Christmas Eve 2011.  Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. RIP Jane Olson, 1927 - 2011.
