Extended unemployment insurance benefits expire at Thanksgiving -- a very cold turkey for millions of Americans already facing the devastation of long term joblessness.

unemployedworkers.org is launching a campaign to SAVE THE LIFELINE -- we need to push Congress to renew the benefit extensions.

The unemployed desperately want to work. They would much rather have a job than benefits, but the jobs lost in the crisis just haven't come back yet. Until we create jobs, we can't just throw millions into homelessness and onto public assistance.

  • The party of callous morals, the so called religious party! Which party supports making the deficit bigger by giving tax cuts to the rich? But at the same time blocking 8 different tax cuts to small businesses? Which party will vote for wars and helping the richest company in the world while refusing to give normal amounts of unemployment benefits to the fools that voted for them. Which party is still paying companies to send your jobs to China REPUBLICANS! Who is selling you out REPUBLICANS

  • Just vote republican if you want to see maximum unemployment, ever-widening wealth imbalance, and an American 3rd world country.

This isn't rocket science folks. Without job creation funded through taxation, America is doomed. By 2012, tea baggers will be begging for socialism.

  • 99 Weeks of unemployment is long enough, if you cant find a job in your industry in 99 weeks, look for a job at another, dont just sit on your ass and expect someone else to support you.

  • @indyman77777 Obama's healthcare bill as with the uncertainty regarding taxes for business is coming from the Democrats and has contributed to the jobs markets as with small business.

  • Yes I have met fellow Americans who look at unemployment as a paid vacation.

When I could not find work I went into business for my self. I bet if you had to do community service while on unemployment You would some how find jobs.

  • I wish we had some of the billions spent on the war to help us here.

  • I'm embarrassed when I go to church and find that there are so many people that, for some reason, believe that being a Christian also means you must be a Republican. I am so shocked by the ignorance! One thing I do know is that Jesus was not selfish!

  • (continued) If you can't relate to the statistics that there is only 1 job available for every 5 jobless worker... imagine 1 empty chair in a room with 5 people. Only 1 person will be lucky enough to sit in the chair. The others will remain standing -- or chair-less. We need more chairs (jobs) created.

  • @thepsi75 The truth is all of us would rather be working -- at any job -- than wasting away while receiving unemployment benefits. UI benefits are not enough to replace our salaries but do help towards paying rent, food, electricity, telephone bills while we keep trying to find an AVAILABLE job. (continued)

  • @dd5k

For many years we were spending over $10 billion per month on the Iraq war. I'll bet some of the money went there.

  • @MichaelEngel

    You'd make a great Republican. :)

And oh yeah, if us unemployed people are all on drugs anyway, it should be easy for us to slide into drug dealing and crack whoring, especially if we do it away from the rich people, the real Americans who make six figures and get real Republican represention.
