ok i adore wodehouse I have his letters (McCRum) and I have to give credit to the person who expressed very aptly what wodehouse was about, he created a world for all of us to be happy in Oh the english countryside Worcester shropshire and led zeppelin tapes (it was the 70's) and wodehouse I thought I'd gone to heaven in that decade. The blues and wodehouse too and the beautiful country side. OH bliss it as to be in Nirvana (Hazlitt)
I am currently writing a dissertation on Wodehouse and would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me the name of the Lord (Anthony something... steeplechaser), who Wodehouse mentions as an inspiration for Bertie Wooster, in the Youtube video entitled 'P.G Wodehouse Discusses the origins of Bertie Wooster'. I can't make it out myself:
Thanks very much for sharing these valuable insights. It's delightful to have this kind of review from a devoted enthusiast. One can't help wondering if this Mark Hitchens is somehow related to another of Wodehouse's devout (the word sounds so out of place with him) fans, Christopher Hitchens. I have not been able to establish a connection though.
Nice monologue. But: Wodehouse didn't write about the real people or real "class" of people. PG Wodehouse - as Evelyn Waugh said - created his own world. For all of us to be happy to dwell in.
