From October 14th - November 3rd, 2008, Barefoot Workshops led a three-week program in the West Bank, teaching Palestinian organizations how to write, shoot, produce, and edit, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), to raise awareness about important social issues.
Twelve PSAs were produced on such topics as: labor law, honor killings, Palestinian land rights, community betterment, political unity between parties, gender relations, volunteerism and youth empowerment. The aim of the workshop was to foster greater civic participation, activism, and debate in the region of the Middle East by teaching civil society organizations how to create messages that can improve their societies from within. The workshop was supported by the United States Government Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), and Creative Associates International.
This 30-second PSA presents a member of the Center for Rapprochement attempting to open a door in a dimly lit room. He calls for help from community members. Together they succeed in opening the door, and as they do, light enters, and the image turns from black and white to color. A final message reads, "Let Us Work Together For A Better Future". The PSA aims to improve social values, calling on Palestinian communities to work together to overcome obstacles through sharing time, expertise, and resources with one another.
