Iran Opposition Supporters Rally, One Shot Dead

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians who support presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi continued to protest in the capital on Monday.

Chanting "God is Great" and "Give us back our vote," they are boldly defying an Interior Ministry ban on protesting.

At a rally at a university in Tehran, this man with a megaphone said the ruling government had cut off their phones and attacked their university.

This amateur video footage shows demonstrators clashing with police.

According to the Associated Press, one protestor was shot dead, and several were injured, after gunfire from a pro-government militia. It came after protestors surrounded the militias compound in Tehran.

Supporters of Mousavi say the election results were rigged. And some sources report Mousavi had told a crowd of tens of thousands he was ready to take part in a new poll.

Ahmadinejad has dismissed the fraud claims and says the vote was fair. But on Monday Irans Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, made an unprecedented move by saying he would have the Guardian Council investigate the allegations.

The demonstrations are the most serious the country has seen since the Islamic revolution in 1979.
